BSNL Bharat Fiber Broadband Review Read and Buy 2023

BSNL Bharat Fiber Broadband (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited), a central public sector undertaking company established by the Government of India in 2000, has been a prominent player in the telecommunications industry for over two decades. In this review, I will share my experiences and thoughts on BSNL’s Bharat Fiber broadband service, which I have been using for more than 2 month

Getting the BSNL Bharat Fiber Broadband Connection

I initiated my application for BSNL Bharat Fiber in May 2023 through their website. Unfortunately, I didn’t receive any updates on the status of my application for nearly a month. Frustrated by the lack of progress, I decided to reach out to a local contact who had also recently acquired a BSNL fiber connection. This contact provided me with the phone number of my local SDO (Sub-Divisional Officer), and I applied for a BSNL fiber connection through this channel.

The BSNL team promptly visited my residence the very next day and took two days to install the fiber wiring. They provided me with a DIGISOL Optical Network Unit (ONU). On the same day, my connection was activated, and the SDO guided me through the ONU setup process. The setup was straightforward, and I had a BSNL technician assisting me until my connection was fully operational.

Cost– BSNL Bharat Fiber Broadband

I applied directly at the local BSNL office, where I was informed of a special offer that waived the installation fee. The only expenses I incurred were the wiring cost, a security deposit, and an advanced payment for one month of service. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Wiring Cost: ₹1,000
  • Security Deposit: ₹500
  • One Month’s Advanced Bill: ₹706 (for the Fibre Basic Plus 60 Mbps plan)

In total, I paid around ₹2,206 for the setup. I should note that I didn’t factor in the router fee, as I already owned a D-link router, since the provided Nokia Siemens ONU did not include an integrated router.

My Experience with BSNL Bharat Fiber Broadband

I subscribed to the 60 Mbps plan, which consistently provided me with download speeds ranging from 55 to 65 Mbps, and upload speeds between 55 and 60 Mbps. This level of performance was more than sufficient for my work-from-home setup in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. I experienced minimal downtime, with only 2 instances in a total of 3 months. Most of these disruptions lasted 10-15 minutes and were often caused by local issues.

On just two occasions, my internet was down for over a day. The first instance resulted from an accident involving a truck hitting an electricity pole, disrupting service for more than a day. The second time was due to a local ISP provider accidentally cutting the main fiber line serving our area.

BSNL Bharat Fiber Broadband Service

I conducted extensive research, including watching YouTube videos and reading forums, to evaluate BSNL’s service. In my experience, BSNL’s fiber support team proved to be highly responsive and efficient. Given my work-from-home demands, I needed a stable internet connection. Whenever I encountered issues, I would promptly report them to the BSNL Bharat Fiber Broadband technician who had installed my fiber connection. Technical problems were typically resolved within 10-15 minutes, and I would receive a notification confirming the issue’s resolution. It’s worth noting that these issues were quite rare, occurring only 5-6 times over two years.

In terms of speed, my 60 Mbps plan consistently delivered download speeds between 55 and 65 Mbps, upload speeds between 55 and 60 Mbps, and a low ping of 30-35 ms. I rarely encountered speed issues, but in cases where I perceived a drop in speed, a simple router restart often resolved the problem.

After using the 60 Mbps plan for six months, I upgraded to the 100 Mbps plan through the online portal. However, I initially didn’t notice a significant boost in speed, receiving around 70 Mbps for downloads and 72-75 Mbps for uploads. After consulting with my SDO, I switched to a Syrotech router, as my old Nokia router could not fully support the 100 Mbps plan. With the new Syrotech router, I consistently achieved download and upload speeds of 95-100 Mbps.

Cons I Encountered

Although my internet connection was generally trouble-free, I did encounter occasional issues with some web pages not loading correctly. When I reached out to BSNL for support, I didn’t receive a satisfactory resolution from their team. However, my research on internet forums led me to discover that this was a common issue with BSNL Bharat Fiber Broadband. Many users recommended changing the DNS and MTU size in the router settings, which I did. Switching to Google DNS and adjusting the MTU size to 1460 successfully resolved these issues.

In my these month of using BSNL’s Bharat Fiber connection, I have been consistently satisfied with their service. Despite the availability of alternatives like Airtel Xtream Fiber and Jio Fiber in my area, I have not been compelled to switch providers due to the overall reliability and quality of BSNL’s service.
